About John

As AMA Tasmania’s current president and local GP, John is a passionate advocate for the health of individuals living in rural communities.


Born and bred in Tasmania, John graduated from UTAS in 1983, John has over 40 years of experience as a local GP in Tasmania and across Australia in various locations.


John has travelled and worked in NSW and Queensland and is now settled back within Tasmania to begin growing his general practice. John’s special interests as a General Practitioner are:

  • - Geriatrics
  • - Palliative Care
  • - Workers Compensation
  • - Supervising registrars
  • - Teaching medical students
  • - Adults and Children with physical and mental disabilities
  • - Men's Health


When not at work, John is husband to Kate and three adult children and loves being around the water, having been a part of over 30 Sydney to Hobart, Melbourne to Hobart and Three Peaks Races. John has also been a past State Representative in Sailing and Rowing, and competed in the Mark Webber Challenge, Freycinet Challenge, Cradle to Coast Challenge and Coolangatta Gold.
