Support for Young Tasmanians

Next Gen is for our next generation of farmers across Tasmania, from the age of 14 and up. Our focus is on building capacity and resilience to reduce the rates of suicide and non-suicidal self injury among young people.

Next Gen is a mental health and suicide prevention support service that provides person-centred, non-clinical care and practical support, by assertively reaching out to those in need. RAW adopts a culturally sensitive, strengths-based, and collaborative approach to delivering services.

Many young people living in rural areas face a number of barriers not faced by those in more populated areas. As young people grow and start to find their place in the world, they are faced with big decisions about their lives. Living in rural areas, by nature, offers a lower number of job opportunities, and young people may start to question where they see their future heading. Some may choose to adopt a country life, and others might try out city living, or travel the world. While young people start to build their independence, it can be helpful to have a friendly ear who can offer advice, guidance, support and encouragement.

Next Gen is here to support young Tasmanians as they navigate the teen years and become young adults. Our qualified youth worker will happily engage online through social media, via phone or text, and in person – whatever is most comfortable. If you or a young person you know could use some support, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
